Oyster Farming
on the North Fork
Marine biologist Karen Rivara, retired owner of Southold-based Aeros Oyster Company will discuss the history of oyster farming on the North Fork from the 1980s to now. A pioneer in local hatchery development and shellfish farming, Karen was the first woman and first aquaculture farmer elected president of the LI Farm Bureau. Since 2000, her hatchery has been on land preserved by the Peconic Land Trust.
Her vast knowledge of aquaculture and her passion for preserving the quality of our waterways informs her presentation.
